Fifth Grade Overview

Throughout fifth grade, your child will progress from concrete to abstract thinking and problem solving. It is a year of spiritual, academic, social, and emotional growth, creating a well rounded child. 

Religion class uses the One Life in Christ curriculum to develop an understanding of Law and Gospel while focusing on the Bible and Christian theology. As a result, your child will recognize the need for a Savior. Growth in your child's love and commitment to Jesus Christ is all part of an active faith. 

Saxon Math curriculum incorporates incremental development and continual review of concepts by using hands-on manipulatives, facts practice and problem solving activities. Mastery of skills is accomplished with a focus on student participation and application. 
 

Science class provides a variety of hands on investigation, activities and projects. The Texas Science Fusion curriculum incorporates inquiry skills, STEM skills, investigations, and many activities with opportunities to ask questions and think critically and enjoy applying hands on science.  The magazine style textbook provides opportunities to take notes, make sketches and record data in the textbook.

During Social Studies class your child will focus on what it took to build America.  A variety of projects and the use of technology aid the student in obtaining knowledge of key historical figures, presidents, places, and events which shaped our great nation. 

Your child will become more adept at ReadingWriting, and Vocabulary skills through the Language Arts curriculum. Novels provide a framework to practice fluency, interpretation, strategies and skill work. Your child will learn to write effectively for a variety of purposes and audiences incorporating the Zaner Bloser handwriting and vocabulary curriculums. 

The well-rounded child will also experience Art class, and be a part of Band or ChoirSpanishHandwriting, Brain Power Hour, Technology and Physical Education will be incorporated throughout the week. Your child will participate in physical and virtual field trips as well as be exposed to guest speakers.
