“Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Thanks for clicking into my portal and for your interest in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, School and Childcare. It’s been my privilege to be part of SHLC since a rainy day in November 1978 when I was installed as the congregation’s pastor. God has richly blessed our ministry together. People regularly speak about the “spirit” they feel when they are on our campus. We believe it is the work of the Holy Spirit that people feel as he guides, blesses, and influences the mission and ministry we undertake. Seeking and complying with the guidance of the Holy Spirit in all that we do is one of our congregation’s seven values. You can read all seven on our home page.
When I first came to SHLC I was the only person on staff full-time. Now, counting full and part time staff, there are almost as many people working here as used to attend worship on an average Sunday 30 years ago. There has been a great deal of change and the congregation has weathered it all marvelously. God has blessed us with an uncommon spirit of unity and institutional health. People are often surprised to learn that I’ve been here so long. I’m not the only person on staff who’s been here most of his or her ministry. Lots of us have been here a long time because it’s such a great place to be.
My wife, Sharon, is my partner in ministry. She helped our congregation begin our school and childcare ministry and has been active in many other programs. We have three children: Jessica, is married to Tony Benevento and lives in Visalia, CA. She is a homemaker caring for her son, Holden, and her daughter, Sophia. Tony manages ServiceMaster by Benevento. Jonathan, is married to Mary Anne, and lives in Bakersfield, CA where he manages a ServiceMaster franchise in partnership with his brother-in-law. Mary Anne is a homemaker caring for their two sons, Andrew and Grant. Joshua recently married Katie and they live in San Antonio. Joshua works with his father-in-law in the roofing business and Katie works at USAA, an insurance company.
Working on my home and being with my family, especially chasing my grandkids, is my favorite off-work activity. In addition to that I enjoy hunting and working on my 1961 Lincoln Continental convertble.
The peace of the Lord be with you.
