How many seeds do YOU think are in a pumpkin?
After admiring our pumpkin for several days we began our Pumpkin Seed Project. This project was hosted by Jennifer Wagner. You can learn more about her goals for integrating technology into the classroom at www.projectsbyjen.com. The first thing we did on the day of the project was estimate the number of seeds in our pumpkin. Here are our estimates:

After estimating the number of seeds in our pumpkin we got down to the messy part! We counted LOTS of seeds. Students learned that putting the seeds into groups of 10 made counting much easier. So...how many seeds were in our pumpkin??? You'll have to read on to find the answer.
Besides counting seeds, we read several stories about pumpkins and how they grow. We also created a pumpkin life cycle mobile, snacked on roasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin muffins, and wrote stories titled "The Important Thing about Pumpkins."
