Welcome to SHLS Junior High-Sixth Grade!
School life is exciting for everyone at SHLS but especially for sixth graders since they are now in Junior High! We do so many fun things in the sixth grade. Some of the highlights this year will be Bible discussions in religion class, Wednesday chapel, the science fair, reading exciting novels in literature, writing a research paper, learning new concepts and doing group investigations in math, exploring different cultures in World Geography, developing organizational skills, and making new friends!
Students also participate in Accelerated Reader, Arts & Smarts, technology projects, Spanish class, P.E., engineering fun, Astronomy night, science experiments, SHLS sports, and field trips to fun places such as the weather squadron at Lackland AFB, SeaWorld, and our overnight trip to Camp Lonestar, just to name a few. Oh yeah, and don't forget about the junior high socials and best of all, LOCKERS!
The theme for the 2009-2010 school year is "Put on the Armor of God." The theme is taken from Ephesians 6:10-17 (NIV).
"...Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist , with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
I want to welcome every sixth grader to the junior high and look forward to working with each student as they grow and mature in their relationship with Christ, in their academics, and in their personal lives. It is a blessing for me to be able to walk with students as they put on their Armor of God and journey through the 2009-2010 school year. God is great!
