Hi, my name is Stephanie Hensel and I feel very blessed to be serving at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church as the DCE (Director of Christian Education) Intern. My main focus will be in Youth Ministry, Junior High (6th-8th grade) and Senior High School (9th-12th). I have a passion for young people and seeing how they start to own their faith and live it out. Building relationships with them, listening, asking questions, teaching, and living by example are all ways I try and facilitate that. Walking beside them and their families in their faith journeys is very rewarding, but also challenging as the teenage years are interesting and trying times especially in the world we live in today. On the left you can click on the youth pages to see what is going on here at Shepherd.
A little bit more about me and my background:
I’m a Kansas girl, grew up in Hutchinson, KS, and was active in my High School youth group. During those years is when I really started to understand who Jesus was. Not only was He my Lord and Savior, but my friend and confidant who would never leave me, and always love me no matter what. I wanted other youth to know this too and became a leader in my own church and served as a LYF (Lutheran Youth Fellowship) representative for the Kansas District on the Youth Board my junior and senior years.
After High School, I went to Concordia University in Seward, NE and received an Accounting degree in 2001. After graduation I moved to the Kansas City area and worked as an accountant in a grain company and then later on for Sprint. During my seven years in KC I volunteered with the youth at my church and later explored other ministry opportunities as a Young Life leader.
In the Fall of 2008 I packed all my things and left Kansas City for Seward, NE. Going back to school to pursue full time ministry was a hard and scary decision, but one I felt led by God to do. Being a college student again was/is an interesting experience that taught me a lot and confirmed my desire to work in the church. As I continue to learn and grow, I am excited for God to use me and see the Holy Spirit work in those around me.
My parents are still in Hutchinson, while my older sister lives and works in New York. I’m very close to my family and it’s hard to be far away from them, but I’m excited to explore San Antonio and see what it has to offer. In my free time I like to relax by reading, watching TV/movies, hanging out with friends, playing games, and shopping (although most of the time it’s just looking).
Blessings,
Stephanie
