By buying food from first rate suppliers at substantial volume discounts, Angel Food Ministries is able to provide families with approximatley $65 worth of quality, nutritious food for $30. Angel Food Ministries does not use out-of-date food or inferior products.

Everyone. There are no applications or qualifications to order Angel Food.

ChristCare Groups Provide

- A place to use gifts and talents in ministry.

Leaders who have been instructed in ChristCare will continue to meet with other leaders once a month for SEA Group (Support, Encouragement, and Accountability).

TIW has three components: Individual reading of a text, small group discussion and large group lecture.
Individuals will read a text and then meet in small group to discuss the reading. Pastor Dan offers a lecture on the historical setting and theological significance of the text on Sundays during the education hour.

DivorceCare is a special weekly support group and seminar conducted by people who understand what you are experiencing. Most importantly, you'll learn how to deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.
At DivorceCare you will become part of a small support group of people who are also experiencing separation and divorce. You'll meet others who understand what you are feeling and who will be able to offer you encouragement. You'll also have a chance to talk about the information presented during the DivorcCare seminar.

Welcome to our website! I'm excited to be able to share information on genealogy with you through this website. Please contact me if you have ideas or suggestions for what works and what doesn't work on this page. Where We Meet and What We Do
Our group meets on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 2pm-4pm. For the first Saturday of the month we meet at SHLC at 1:30pm and I drive our group downtown to the Texana Genealogy department at the San Antonio Public Library. Texana offers free lectures on different genealogy topics on the first Saturday of each month. More about Texana is below. For the third Saturday of the month we meet at SHLC at 2:00pm at the school library. The school library has big tables where we can spread our genealogy stuff out and organize our research. We also have access to the library's computers on which we do genealogy research. I bring in videos to watch and light snacks and beverages.

Genealogy 101
There are a lot of resources available to us for genealogy. I will include some links below which should be helpful for the beginner as well as someone who has been doing their family history for a long time:
If you are brand new to family history, you should start with yourself and what you know and work backwards. Start by using a generic Ancestral Chart to record your information. By using this chart, you will be able to have on paper what you know and what you don't know about your family history.
The next step would be to talk to your parents and your relatives to find out what information they know. Always remember to double check your information for accuracy.
Genealogy Programs for the Computer
You will soon find that the ancestral chart on which you started is quickly getting filled up. There are several family tree programs for your computer, which can help you in organizing your material.
The least expensive program is the Personal Ancestry Finder (PAF) that can be found on the FamilySearch.org website. You will find the link on this page under the "Free PAF Family History Software" paragraph. When you click on the "Download PAF" link on that page, you will have to register, but you will only be asked for your first name, last name, and email address.
Another genealogy program that is widely used is Family Tree Maker. This program allows you to keep track of your ancestors, find out how long-lost Aunt Mable is related to you, as well as publish your family tree so that you can share your information with your family and friends.
Texana Genealogy Department
Now back to Texana for a minute. In addition to offering monthly lectures, they have quite an impressive collection of genealogy holdings. They also offer free access to the multitude of documents that Ancesty.com has stored on their website. The library has an account with Ancestry.com and if you have a library card, you can have access to this account. By the way, each branch of the San Antonio public library has access to the information on Ancestry.com, not just Texana. Once you are on one of the computers at a public library branch, go to Articles and Databases from the Texana Genealogy department's homepage.
In addition to Ancestry.com, which is only accessable from a library terminal, the library also offers access to Heritage Quest from your home computer. You simply go to the San Antonio Library homepage and click on Articles and Databases. Click next on "HeritageQuest Online". This will take you to a page where you have to put in your name and library card number. Once at HeritageQuest Online, you can search census records, books, and any of their other resources. One of the other things they offer is their South Texas Researcher which is a monthly publication of genealogy news.
As you can see, we have a wealth of information at our fingertips.

This group meets for fellowship once each month. Day varies. Senior Shepherds explore area sights enjoying good food wherever they go. Their activites include theater, museums, day trips and MUCH more. A special effort is made to seek out older aults who are newcomers to SHLC. Contact Pastor Bud and Eunice Redmann, revcolred@aol.com

Novice kayakers are welcome. The group plans one outting a month, usually on the second Saturday of the month. Contact Herb Nordmeyer herbnordmeyer@gmail.com.

Many of these ministries are led by the laity. Because of the limited space here, staff members' names appear with ministry lists under them. Staff members will make sure you are connected with people who can assist you as you look for ways to use your gifts and talents in ministry. Church membership is not a requirement to get involved at SHLC.

Children's Sunday School Fun!
Ages 2- 5th grade (9:30-10:30)
All kids meet every Sunday morning in the school cafeteria for a rousing opening of singing and fun before going to individual classes by grade. Short closing at end also in cafeteria.
This year's theme is "G.L.O.W" (God Lights Our Way).

Women's Sunday Morning Bible Study
 9:30 a.m. in the Dove House
Please join us as we study the Book of Revelation, "Here and Now...There and Then" by Beth Moore.
The group will resume meeting on Sunday, September 5th.
Joy in the Morning
A Women's Prayer Group A dedicated group of women who meets on every Tuesday morning at 10:00 in the King George House to pray.

Together in the Word (TIW) Group for Women Dinner and the Word
Meets Tuesdays 6:00 p.m. various restaurants and members' homes
Together in the Word is an opportunity for participants read through the Bible cover-to-cover. It began in January 2008. It has two components: small group discussion and large group lecture.
Individuals read a text and then meet in small group to discuss the reading and its application to daily life.
Pastor Dan Mueller offers a lecture on the historical setting and theological significance of the text on Sunday mornings, 9:30 -- l0:30 in the gym.
Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML)
 King George House 2nd Wednesday of the month for Bible Study
4th Wednesday of the month for quilting for Lutheran World Relief
No quilting experience necessary, but you must be willing to have fun and enjoy the company of other delightful women!
Soul Food Bible Study and Fellowship 
This group meets Wednesday evenings at 6:30 at various restaurants or members' homes for dinner and to study the text for the coming Sunday.

Youth ministry here at Shepherd of the Hills is about building relationships. We strive in helping to connect youth and families to each other and to Christ. One of the ways this happens is by providing opportunities where these connections can occur.
